SunSirs: This Week, the Price of Bromine in the Market Was Weak (January 1-5)

Price trend

According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the price of bromine had been weak this week. At the beginning of the week, the price of bromine was 24,800 RMB/ton, while the average market price over the weekend was 24,500 RMB/ton, a decrease of 1.21% and a year-on-year decrease of 43.42%.

On January 4th, the bromine commodity index was 86.32, unchanged from the previous day, a decrease of 64.79% from the highest point in the cycle of 245.18 points (2021-10-27), and an increase of 46.50% from the lowest point of 58.92 points on October 29th, 2014. (Note: The cycle refers to the period from September 1st, 2011 to present)

Analysis review

This week, the price of bromine was in a weak operating trend, with mainstream quotes in the Shandong market of around 24,000-24,500 RMB/ton, and market prices were consolidating horizontally. There had been a slight decrease in supply recently. The downstream flame retardant and intermediate industries were still mainly purchasing on demand recently, with a strong wait-and-see attitude.

In terms of raw materials, domestic sulfur prices had fallen this week, with an average market price of 1,066.67 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week and 1,013.33 RMB/ton at the end of the week. The price had dropped by 5%, with a year-on-year decrease of 20.83%. The in raw material sulfur prices was weak overall this week.

Market outlook

The price of bromine had been fluctuating recently, while the upstream sulfur price was weak. The supply of bromine had slightly decreased recently, and the downstream flame retardant and intermediate industries of bromine were still mainly purchasing on demand, without any positive support. Overall, it is expected that the price of bromine will consolidate and operate in the short term, depending on downstream market demand.
