SunSirs: China Corrugated Wastepaper Continues to Decline and Operates under Short-term Pressure
March 18 2024 15:38:12SunSirs(Selena)

According to the monitoring of the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the price of wastepaper in Zhejiang region continued to decline last week. On March 15, 2024, the average purchase price of A-grade waste yellow cardboard in Zhejiang Province was 1,470 RMB/ton, a decrease of 1.34% compared to the average price of 1,490 RMB/ton on March 10. The price of corrugated paper has maintained a downward trend. On March 15th, the average ex factory price of 140g corrugated base paper was 2,752 RMB/ton, a decrease of 0.65% compared to the average price of 2,770 RMB/ton on March 10th.

By observing market changes, it can be seen that the prices of wastepaper in Zhejiang region were still in a state of replenishment last week, and the decline in domestic wastepaper prices gradually slowed down. Recently, the amount of wastepaper in the packaging station market has been continuously increasing, resulting in an increase in the arrival of waste yellow cardboard from paper mills in various regions. Most paper mills have actively lowered the purchase prices of waste yellow cardboard to reduce the arrival of wastepaper. The bearish atmosphere in the market continues, and some regions have maintained weak prices for wastepaper.

The price of corrugated base paper continued to decline this week, driven by the continuous decline in raw material wastepaper prices, the cost of corrugated paper continued to decrease, leading to price adjustments. However, domestic corrugated paper production has entered normal operation, and the recent increase in imported corrugated paper arrivals has further increased the supply pressure on domestic corrugated paper. However, with limited follow-up of downstream and terminal demand orders, the speed of paper mill shipments has slowed down, inventory pressure has increased, and prices are still showing a downward trend.

Paper analysts from SunSirs believe that the recent decline in domestic wastepaper prices has slightly eased, and paper mills often adjust their wastepaper purchase prices based on their own needs. The price of corrugated paper is mostly linked to the price of wastepaper. With the gradual arrival of imported paper at ports and low enthusiasm for downstream procurement, it is expected that the prices of wastepaper and corrugated paper will be under pressure in the short term.
