SunSirs: This Week, the Prices of Flake Caustic Soda Had Been Consolidating (April 15-19)

Price trend

According to the commodity analysis system of SunSirs, the price of flake caustic soda had been consolidating this week, with an average market price of 3,400 RMB/ton from the beginning of the week to the weekend, a decrease of 2.86% compared to the same period last year.

On April 18th, the chlor alkali index was 980 points, unchanged from the previous day, a decrease of 53.95% from the highest point in the cycle of 2,128 points (2021-10-24), and an increase of 37.64% from the lowest point of 712 points on January 5th, 2016. (Note: The cycle refers to 2011-12-01 present)

Upstream caustic soda

According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, the price of caustic soda had remained stable this week, with an average market price of 796 RMB/ton from the beginning of the week to the weekend, a decrease of 12.53% compared to the same period last year.

According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, the domestic caustic soda prices had remained stable this week. The price of caustic soda in Hubei region was temorarily stable, with a mainstream market price of around 900-960 RMB/ton for 32% ion exchange membrane caustic soda. The price of caustic soda in Jiangsu region was consolidating, with a mainstream market price of around 780-880 RMB/ton for 32% ion exchange membrane caustic soda.

Market outlook

SunSirs’ analysts believe that the price of flake caustic soda had stabilized this week, and downstream demand was still acceptable. Traders were actively shipping, but downstream demand for alumina was generally following suit. Overall, the price of caustic soda may remain volatile in the short term, depending on downstream market demand.
