SunSirs: Astragalus Price breaks through History as the Prices of Codonopsis pilosula and Angelica Rise
June 15 2023 14:54:47SunSirs(Selena)

According to the monitoring of the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, Angelica and Codonopsis pilosula have surged again this month, and the origin market is once again hot. Currently, the unified price of Angelica in the origin is between 160-170 RMB/kg, an increase of 36.97% compared to the beginning of the month and a year-on-year increase of 293.72%; Codonopsis pilosula is priced between 150 and 160 RMB/kg, an increase of 37.48% compared to the beginning of the month and a year-on-year increase of 188.68%. Due to the high prices of Gansu varieties of Codonopsis pilosula and Angelica, many merchants have shifted their investment targets to the low-priced Astragalus. With the active purchasing of many merchants, prices have slightly increased. Currently, the unified price of Astragalus in the production area is between 25-27 RMB/kg, an increase of 9.65% compared to the beginning of the month and 58.23% year-on-year.

Bozhou market: Astragalus: Buyers are still not decreasing, and the market's supply of small quantities is selling smoothly. Holders are optimistic about the future trend, leading to a further strengthening of their reluctance to sell. The market is steadily rising, and now the Inner Mongolia Mao'er is priced at 17-17.5 RMB; Zhongtiao costs 24-25 RMB, and Zhongtiao costs 37-38 RMB for both ends.

Anguo market: astragalus: the market of astragalus is relatively popular, and the price of the place of origin has been rising recently; The market situation is closely following the changes in the origin, and the holders have a strong reluctance to sell. The actual transaction of the goods is not as smooth as the origin, and the current asking price of 58ding is 35-36 RMB.

With the prices of Codonopsis pilosula and Angelica breaking through history, low-priced Astragalus has begun to attract attention from merchants. Recently, the supply of goods has accelerated, and the market has also seen a slight increase.

Harvest seeds of Astragalus in autumn, sow seeds in the spring of the second year, raise seedlings until autumn, and then harvest the Astragalus seedlings for transplantation in the second year. Seedlings will be harvested from March to May of the third year, and finally harvested after frost in October. Its production areas are mainly distributed in Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Ningxia, and Northeast China. Among them, Gansu (surrounding areas such as Longxi, WeiRMB, Minxian, Tianshui, Longnan Dangchang, Hezuo, and Guazhou) has the highest production of Astragalus due to its advantages of good planting, easy management, and easy collection, accounting for about 50-60% of the national output.

Compared to Angelica sinensis and Codonopsis pilosula, Astragalus cultivation has a higher degree of mechanization, a wider planting area, and varieties that are cold and drought resistant are less affected by climate. The demand side and supply side are relatively balanced in the long term. According to statistics, the national production of Astragalus in 2021 was about 46,000 tons, and in 2022, the production of Astragalus was about 45,000 tons. In 2021, the national consumption of Astragalus was about 37,000 tons, and in 2022, the consumption of Astragalus was about 41,000 tons.

The price of Astragalus is low, and the overall planting enthusiasm of farmers is low. The drying rate of fresh goods in 2022 is approximately 5.5 kilograms, which is about 300 kilograms. In addition to processing costs, the total cost of planting large households of Astragalus is about 12-13 RMB, while the total planting cost for ordinary farmers is about 10 RMB. The normal yield of this product is 700 kilograms of fresh goods per mu. Calculated at a price of 6 RMB per kilogram of fresh goods, the income from planting in large households is still acceptable. However, due to the significant increase in major northwest varieties such as Angelica and Codonopsis pilosula, planting Astragalus is not attractive.

The prices of Angelica and Codonopsis pilosula have skyrocketed, and the prices of pharmaceutical factories' origin have already exceeded 150 RMB/kg. The prices of Astragalus are only in their twenties. Compared to these two high priced varieties, Astragalus has a lower price. After the popularity of high-priced varieties, funds flow into relatively low-priced varieties such as Astragalus and Licorice. Business analysis suggests that the price of Astragalus may increase slightly in the short term.
