According to data from SunSirs, as of May 15th, the price of bulk chloroform in Shandong Province was 2,075 RMB/ton, a significant decrease of 11.70% from 2,350 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month. The price of raw material methanol decreased, while the cost of chloroform slightly decreased; the peak season for downstream refrigerants came to an end, the demand for R22 was weak and the support for chloroform was weak; The operating rate of methane chloride fluctuated slightly, and the pressure on the supply side of chloroform continued; Chloroform market was weak and declining.

In the first half of May, there was a slight fluctuation in the operation of methane chloride plants.

In the first half of May, the price of raw material methanol decreased, while the cost of dichloromethane slightly decreased. According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of May 15th, the spot price of methanol was 2,325 RMB/ton, a decrease of 4.02% from 2,423 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month.

After entering May, the refrigeration market entered the end of the traditional peak season. Some downstream refrigerant R22 enterprises had shut down for maintenance, with prices temporarily stable. In addition, the total production quota of R22 was reduced by 19% to 181,800 tons in 2023, and support for chloroform weakened again after the peak season.

Market outlook

According to methane chloride data analysts from SunSirs, although the demand for chloroform was weakened and there was pressure on the supply side, it is expected that the chloroform market will be weakly consolidated in the short term.
