SunSirs: Chloroform Market Slightly Increased (April 3-10)
April 12 2023 13:28:28SunSirs(John)

Price trend

After several consecutive weeks of decline, the chloroform market slightly increased this week (4.3-4.10). According to data from SunSirs, as of April 10th, the price of bulk chloroform in Shandong Province was 2,550 RMB/ton, a slight increase of 0.99% from last Monday's 2,525 RMB/ton.

Analysis review

The price of raw materials decreased, and the cost of chloroform declined; The price of downstream refrigerant R22 was temporarily stable, and there was a rigid support for chloroform in demand side; The operating rate of methane chloride had slightly increased, and the supply of chloroform was loose. Chloroform had experienced a narrow range of fluctuations after its recent price decline. As of April 10th, the factory price of chloroform in Jinling Chemical was 2,600 RMB/ton.

This week (4.3-4.10), the operating rate of the methane chloride device slightly increased. The 200,000 ton/year methane chloride device in Jiangsu Meilan was restarted to 60% load operation, and the pressure on the chloroform supply side continued.

This week (4.3~4.10), the price of raw material methanol decreased, and the cost of chloroform decreased. According to SunSirs, as of April 10th, the spot price of methanol was 2,410 RMB/ton, a decrease of 4.96% from last Monday's 2,535 RMB/ton.

On the one hand, the total production quota of R22 has been reduced by 19% to 181,800 tons in 2023. On the other hand, since the traditional peak season of March, the price of R22 has been strong, and there is a demand for replenishment of chloroform. However, due to the impact of quota reduction, the overall demand continues to decrease compared to previous years.

Market outlook

According to methane chloride data analysts from SunSirs, although there is currently support in the demand for chloroform, there is pressure on the supply side, coupled with weak cost support, and it is expected that the chloroform market will be weak and consolidated in the short term.
