SunSirs: The Market Price of Chloroform Remained Basically Stable
October 31 2025 10:56:42SunSirs(John)

Price trend:

The chloroform market in Shandong province remained relatively stable recently (October 20-29). According to data from the SunSirs commodity market analysis system, as of October 29, the price of bulk chloroform in Shandong was 1700 RMB/ton, unchanged from the previous period. Raw materials methanol and liquid chlorine still provided some support. Downstream operating rates remained low, dragging down chloroform prices, but the expected decline in methane chloride operating rates resulted in an overall weak equilibrium for the chloroform market.

Analysis review

Recently (October 20-29), Jinling's methane chloride plant restarted, while Jiangsu Liwen's methane chloride plant shut down for maintenance. Jiuhong's methane chloride plant also had maintenance plans, and the market expects supply pressure to ease slightly in the later period.

Recently, methanol prices declined while liquid chlorine prices rose, providing continued cost support for chloroform. According to data from the SunSirs commodity market analysis system, as of October 29th, the spot price of methanol was 2,212 RMB/ton, a decrease of 3.41% from 2,290 RMB/ton on the 20th. As of October 29th, the acceptance price for liquid chlorine tank trucks in Shandong was around 250 RMB/ton, an increase of approximately 50 RMB/ton from the previous period.

Downstream demand for refrigerant R22 remained weak, reducing support for the rigid demand for chloroform. Furthermore, the R22 quota continued to decline in 2025, negatively impacting chloroform production. In 2013, China's baseline production quota for second-generation refrigerants was 426,400 tons; after several reductions, it was reduced to 163,600 tons in 2025. Specifically, the production quotas for R22, R142b, and R141b were 149,100, 3,400, and 9,200 tons, respectively.

Market outlook

According to analysts at SunSirs, demand for chloroform was weak; however, cost and supply factors are expected to provide support, and the chloroform market is expected tobe consolidated range-bound in the near future.
