According to China's customs data, from January to August 2025, the total import and export volume of woolen raw materials and products was $10.4 billion (RMB 74.4 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 2.9%. Among them, the export volume of woolen raw materials and products was $8.01 billion (RMB 57.5 billion), a year-on-year increase of 1.9%, and the import volume was $2.35 billion (RMB 16.8 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 16.3%.
Due to the adjustment of overseas market demand for woolen products, the export situation of different categories of woolen products is not the same. From January to August, the export volume of woolen yarns increased, with the cumulative export volume increasing by 8.2% year-on-year and the cumulative export amount increasing by 16.0% year-on-year.
Woolen fabrics, woolen knitted apparel, and woolen woven apparel showed an increase in volume and a decrease in price. From January to August, the cumulative export volume of woolen fabrics, woolen knitted apparel, and woolen woven apparel increased by 1.4%, 9.3%, and 2.2% year-on-year, respectively, and the cumulative export amounts increased by 0.2%, 4.6%, and decreased by 6.2% year-on-year, respectively.
The export of woolen cards showed a decrease in both volume and price. The cumulative export volume decreased by 2.6% year-on-year, and the cumulative export amount decreased by 9.9% year-on-year. Among them, the export of woolen cards to the EU decreased rapidly, with the export volume decreasing by 26.1% year-on-year. However, there was a significant increase in the export of woolen cards to India, ASEAN, and the UK, with the cumulative export volume growth rates being 16.8%, 43%, and 39.2%, respectively.
The import volume of wool in China is still in a continuous decline. From January to August, the cumulative import volume of wool was 204,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.7%, including 172,000 tons of greasy wool, a year-on-year decrease of 15.1%. The cumulative import volume of wool from the three major wool-producing countries, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, also shows that the situation of insufficient domestic demand for wool raw materials is not over.
