Analysis review
Regarding port ethylene glycol, the spot contract price for August 25, 2025, saw a slight increase in line with market conditions. Last week, the spot contract basis ranged from +93 to +103 RMB/ton (09 contract), with a slight increase in the intraday basis.
The spot price for domestic coal-based polyester-grade ethylene glycol (bulk, tax included, self pick-up) was 4,050-4,100 RMB/ton per truckload.
Regarding overseas ethylene glycol, recent cargoes were negotiated at around $532-536/ton, with prices relatively firm in the afternoon. In the afternoon, recent cargoes were traded at around $532-535/ton, with some suppliers participating in replenishing their stocks. Furthermore, some cargoes were traded at around $538/ton for Taiwan tenders.
In the short term, there is a high probability that ethylene glycol will fluctuate sideways and tend to be stronger
The arrival volume of ethylene glycol at ports last week was relatively low, and the downstream polyester peak season is expected to be strong. The expectation of a Fed rate cut and the expectation that South Korean petrochemical companies will agree to cut naphtha cracking capacity by up to 3.7 million tons per year resonate with each other. It is expected that there is a high probability that ethylene glycol will fluctuate to be stronger in the short term, and subsequent attention will be paid to changes in the equipment.
