The U.S. Department of Agriculture released a supply and demand report on Thursday, with global cotton production, consumption, beginning and ending stocks, and global trade in 2025/26 all lowered.

Global cotton production was lowered by more than 800,000 bales this month, as China's production was raised by 1 million bales, but this was offset by lower production in India, the United States, and Pakistan.

Global cotton consumption in 2025/26 was lowered by more than 300,000 bales, as Egypt's consumption was raised, but this was offset by lower consumption in India, Turkey, and Bangladesh. Global cotton exports were lowered by 40,000 bales this month.

Beginning stocks in 2025/26 were lowered by more than 1.1 million bales, mainly reflecting a 1 million bale reduction in India's production in 2024/25. Global ending stocks for 2025/26 are lowered by nearly 1.6 million bales, primarily reflecting a reduction in beginning stocks and lower production, which more than offsets lower consumption.
