SunSirs: Supply and Demand Were Imbalanced, Chloroform Prices Fell Sharply (May 13-25)
May 26 2022 09:08:05SunSirs(John)

Price trend

According to the data of SunSirs, the chloroform market has fallen sharply since May. As of May 25, the price of chloroform in bulk water in Shandong was 3,850 RMB/ton, down 21.03% from the price of 4,875 RMB/ton on the 13th.

Analysis review

On the one hand, due to the yearly reduction of quotas for the main downstream refrigerant R22, the consumption of air conditioners and foaming agents has been reduced year by year. In addition, the domestic public health incidents were scattered in March and April this year, and the start-up of some refrigerant units was limited, and the demand for chloroform weakened. On the other hand, the domestic methane chloride plant load gradually increased from around 50% in February and March to nearly 80% in May, and Huatai Phase I 160,000 tons/year methane chloride plant is planned to be put into operation in the near future. Under the pressure of supply and demand, the price was sharply lower.

In May, the spot price of raw material methanol fell slightly, and the cost side weakened slightly. According to the understanding of SunSirs, as of May 25, the price of methanol was 2,650 RMB/ton, down 3.46% from the price of 2,745 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month.

Since May, the production and sales of the downstream refrigerant market of chloroform has shrunk, the price has fallen weakly, and the demand support for chloroform weakened.

Market outlook

The methane chloride data analyst of SunSirs predicts that the imbalance between supply and demand will be difficult to change in the short term, but with the arrival of the peak season of air conditioning, the demand for chloroform may stop falling and rise.
