Price trend
According to SunSirs' commodity market analysis system, in January, the mainstream domestic market price of polyacrylamide (CPAM, cationic, molecular weight 12 million, 10-30 ionicity) was weak. On January 30th, the main quoted price was around 12,960 RMB/ton, while on January 1st, it was around 13,000 RMB/ton, representing a monthly decrease of 0.31%. This month, the price of raw material acrylonitrile increased, the price of acrylic acid increased, and fuel prices rose, providing cost support for polyacrylamide. Production in major producing areas was normal, and market supply was abundant. The mainstream polyacrylamide market mainly showed a weak and consolidating trend.
Market Analysis
Raw material acrylonitrile: In January, the acrylonitrile market experienced an initial decline followed by a rise. As of January 30th, the average price of acrylonitrile was 7,650 RMB/ton, a 2% increase compared to 7,500 RMB/ton on January 1st. The rising price of propylene, the raw material, provided support for acrylonitrile prices; the downstream domestic ABS industry maintained stable production with minor fluctuations, and the continuous price increase also supported acrylonitrile prices.
Raw material acrylic acid: Acrylic acid prices continued to rise in January. The cost price of propylene has remained strong and has been steadily increasing recently, providing strong cost support for the acrylic acid market. With this cost support, manufacturers and holders of inventory were maintaining relatively firm prices, and their willingness to sell at low prices was weak, resulting in a decrease in low-priced supply in the market.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) was used for production purposes. In January, domestic LNG market prices rose sharply. As of January 30th, the average price of LNG was 3,610 RMB/ton, a 9.33% increase compared to 3302 RMB/ton on January 1st. The sustained low temperatures led to strong heating demand in northern regions, supporting LNG consumption.
Market outlook
In January, the prices of raw materials acrylonitrile and acrylic acid rose, and fuel prices also increased, leading to higher production costs for polyacrylamide. On the supply side, companies in the main production areas operated normally, resulting in ample market supply; on the demand side, downstream purchasing remained sluggish, and market transactions were generally stable. As of January 30, the market was still in a state of oversupply, and it is expected that the domestic polyacrylamide market will be consolidated in the near future.
