According to CCTV News, the 15th Five-Year Plan proposal explicitly calls for forward-looking development of six future industries, including hydrogen energy and nuclear fusion energy. Data shows China's hydrogen industry is rapidly advancing, with several technical metrics leading the world.
At the Ningdong Renewable Hydrogen Carbon Reduction Demonstration Zone in Ningxia, green hydrogen production has achieved significant results. The demonstration zone has continuously supplied nearly 11 million standard cubic meters of green hydrogen, achieving carbon emissions reductions of approximately 20,000 tons. By the end of September this year, China's investment in clean hydrogen projects accounted for 30% of the global total, ranking first worldwide.
China's green hydrogen production capacity has exceeded 220,000 tons annually, accounting for over 50% of the global total; with over 540 hydrogen refueling stations built, accounting for 40% of the global total.
Meanwhile, innovative technologies related to the hydrogen energy industry continue to emerge. The cost of hydrogen production via water electrolysis has significantly decreased to the range of RMB20-30 per kilogram, representing a nearly 40% reduction compared to 2020. This cost reduction has strongly driven technological breakthroughs in areas such as green ammonia-based hydrogen, long-distance pipelines, and marine hydrogen energy.
During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, China will accelerate the large-scale development of hydrogen energy. The nation aims to achieve 100 gigawatts of installed capacity for renewable hydrogen production, establishing a comprehensive hydrogen energy industrial technology innovation system and a clean energy hydrogen production and supply system.
