According to China Chemical News, the 1.2 million-ton-per-year mining and beneficiation project at the Kalqar Fluorspar Mine (hereinafter referred to as “Kalqar Fluorspar Mine”) of Xinjiang Nonferrous Metals Group's Huaou Mining, designed and constructed by China Minmetals, has recently commenced operations. The mine holds approximately 15% of China's proven fluorspar reserves, making it Asia's largest single-site fluorspar deposit and China's largest primary fluorspar mining and processing base.
The project achieves a fluorite concentrate grade of 97%, establishing an engineered technical system for efficient beneficiation of calcite-type refractory fluorite. This not only reserves technology for developing China's vast reserves of calcite-type fluorite but also ensures raw material supply for the fluorochemical industry. The project's tailings dam employs an upstream construction method with specialized adaptations for high-altitude cold regions. Furthermore, it incorporates a solar thermal collection and storage system that supplies hot water for heating and slurry temperature control, significantly reducing electricity consumption and achieving notable energy savings.
As Xinjiang's first and China's largest modern fluorite mining and processing base, the project's fluorite concentrate will fill a market gap in Xinjiang, alleviate China's reliance on imported high-end fluorochemical raw materials, and provide resource security for critical sectors such as new energy batteries and semiconductor etching agents. Upon full production capacity, the Kalqiaer Fluorite Mine processing plant will achieve an annual processing capacity of 1.2 million tons and an annual output of 300,000 tons of fluorite concentrate.
