SunSirs: High-Quality Development of China's Energy Sector in First Three Quarter
October 23 2025 15:02:40()

According to China Energy News, during the first three quarters, China's energy production system demonstrated remarkable resilience and stability in responding to demand fluctuations and external uncertainties. Output of major energy products—including coal, oil, natural gas, and electricity—grew in tandem, laying a solid foundation for secure energy supply.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that during this period, China's industrial raw coal output from enterprises above designated size reached 3.57 billion tons, marking a 2.0% year-on-year increase.

Crude oil production from such enterprises totaled 160 million tons, up 1.7% year-on-year, highlighting the resilience of domestic crude supply. Natural gas output reached 194.9 billion cubic meters, setting a new record high for the same period and rising 6.4% year-on-year.

In the first three quarters, electricity generation from industrial enterprises above designated size reached 7.3 trillion kilowatt-hours, up 1.6% year-on-year. Among these, thermal and hydropower generation saw slight declines due to factors like water availability, while nuclear, wind, and solar power generation showed strong growth, increasing by 9.2%, 10.1%, and 24.2% respectively.

Energy self-sufficiency levels steadily improved. Benefiting from ample domestic coal supply, China's energy import structure continued to optimize. According to customs flash data, coal imports totaled 350 million tons in the first three quarters, down 11.1% year-on-year; crude oil imports reached 420 million tons, a 2.6% year-on-year increase, accelerating by 1.2 percentage points compared to the first half of the year; natural gas imports totaled 92.86 million tons, a 6.2% year-on-year decrease, narrowing the decline by 1.6 percentage points compared to the first half. Proactive adjustments to the import structure have effectively controlled energy dependence on foreign sources, significantly enhancing China's self-sufficiency in energy security.

During this period, clean energy sources—including hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, and solar power—accounted for 35.3% of total electricity generation by enterprises above designated size, up 1.9 percentage points year-on-year. Wind and solar power maintained rapid growth, emerging as the primary drivers of the clean energy transition. They not only supplied massive amounts of green electricity but also injected robust new momentum into the energy system.
