Sunsirs: China's Early Rice Achieved An Increase in Production in 2025, With The Yield of Early Rice Per Mu Exceeding 400 Kilograms for The First Time
August 27 2025 09:01:34Sunsirs from Xinhua Finance(lkhu)

In 2025, the national early rice output was 57.03 billion jin, an increase of 680 million jin over the previous year, a growth of 1.2%.

Xinhua Finance in Beijing, August 22 (Xinhua Finance) -- According to the National Bureau of Statistics website on the 22nd, Wei Fenghua, Director of the Rural Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, said while interpreting the production situation of early rice that in 2025, the national early rice planting area was stable with a slight decrease, the single yield increased, and the early rice output was 57.03 billion jin, an increase of 680 million jin compared to 2024, an increase of 1.2%.

Specifically, the planting area of early rice has been stable with a slight decrease. In 2025, the national planting area of early rice was 71.143 million mu, a decrease of 1.793 million mu compared to the previous year, a decrease of 0.3%, and remained stable overall. By region, the planting area in Zhejiang, Fujian, and Jiangxi increased; while the planting area in Anhui, Guangdong and other places decreased slightly due to the spring drought.

The state has further increased its support for grain production this year, continued to raise the minimum purchase price for early rice, and stabilised farmers' expectations for grain planting and planting enthusiasm. All localities have implemented grain production responsibilities at all levels, introduced relevant policy measures, coordinated project funds such as those for grain-producing counties, and supported and guaranteed the production of early rice. In some localities, the drought was more serious during the spring sowing period, affecting the timely transplantation of early rice, and farmers changed to planting other crops, resulting in a slight decrease in the planting area of early rice. However, with a series of policy support, the national planting area of early rice has still been stable at about 47.33 million mu for six consecutive years.

Early rice yield first exceeded 400 kilograms per mu. In 2025, the national average yield of early rice was 400.8 kilograms per mu, an increase of 5.8 kilograms per mu compared to the previous year, a growth of 1.5%, and the yield first exceeded 400 kilograms per mu. By region, among the 10 major early rice-producing provinces (districts), with the exception of Hainan, which experienced a decrease in yield due to the impact of a strong typhoon, the average yield in the other nine provinces (districts) increased to varying degrees. Specifically, Jiangxi, Hunan, and Guangdong saw increases of 8.4 kilograms per mu, 8.0 kilograms per mu, and 6.3 kilograms per mu, representing growth rates of 2.2%, 2.0%, and 1.6%, respectively.

Since the early rice was sown this year, the light-temperature-water match in the main producing areas of Jiangnan and South China has been good, and there has been basically no large-scale natural disasters such as " reverse spring cold", flood, "rain washing rice flowers", and the pests and diseases have also been lighter, which is generally conducive to the growth and development of early rice and the formation of yield. After entering the period of maturity and harvest, the weather in the main producing areas of early rice is mainly sunny, which is not only conducive to the grain-filling and maturing harvesting of early rice, but also conducive to the improvement of quality.

Early rice production achieved growth. In 2025, the national early rice production was 57.03 billion jin, an increase of 680 million jin over the previous year, a growth of 1.2%. By region, in the main producing areas, Jiangxi, Hunan, and Guangdong had reduced early rice production due to disasters last year, but this year they all achieved恢复性 growth and further increased, with early rice production increasing by 330 million jin, 260 million jin, and 110 million jin respectively, a growth of 2.4%, 1.8%, and 1.0%; Guangxi increased by 10 million jin, a growth of 0.1%. In non-main producing areas, Zhejiang and Fujian's early rice production increased over the previous year, while Anhui, Hubei, Hainan, and Yunnan's production decreased slightly.

In 2025, our country's summer grain has been steadily produced and harvested, and early rice has achieved increased production, laying a solid foundation for stabilizing the year's grain production and providing a solid support for responding to the complex and severe international situation and consolidating and expanding the momentum of economic recovery and improvement.
