From September to October 2023, China's lithium-ion battery (hereinafter referred to as "lithium battery") industry continued to grow. According to the announcement of lithium battery industry standards and industry association calculations, the total production of lithium batteries in China exceeded 185GWh from September to October, a year-on-year increase of 17%.
In the battery sector, from September to October, the production of energy storage type lithium batteries exceeded 38 GWh, and the installed capacity of power type lithium batteries for new energy vehicles was about 76 GWh. Export trade continues to grow, with the total export value of lithium batteries in China reaching 82.46 billion yuan from September to October, a year-on-year increase of 21%.
In the first stage material stage, from September to October, the production of positive electrode materials, negative electrode materials, separators, and electrolytes reached 430000 tons, 300000 tons, 2.7 billion square meters, and 200000 tons respectively, with an increase of over 25%.
In the second stage material stage, the production of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide from September to October was approximately 81000 tons and 46000 tons, respectively. The average prices of battery grade lithium carbonate and battery grade lithium hydroxide (micro powder level) were 178000 yuan/ton and 175000 yuan/ton, respectively.
According to summary information, the total production of lithium batteries in China from January to October exceeded 765GWh, a year-on-year increase of 31%.
It should be noted that the prices of lithium batteries have continued to decline recently, with the average prices of battery cells and battery grade lithium salts decreasing by 50% and 60% respectively compared to the beginning of 2023
