SunSirs: China White Cardboard and Whiteboard Continued to Rise in September, with Short-term Fluctuations and Consolidation
October 08 2023 09:54:55SunSirs(Selena)

According to the monitoring of the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the prices of white cardboard and gray background white board paper were still on an upward trend in September. On September 28th, the average market price of 230g-400g white cardboard in China was 4,906.67 RMB/ton, an increase of 3.52% compared to the average market price of 4,740 RMB/ton on September 1st. On September 28th, the average market price of 250g white board paper in China was 4,332.33 RMB/ton, an increase of 2.77% compared to the average market price of 4,215.67 RMB/ton on September 1st.

By observing market changes, it can be seen that the price of white cardboard in the early September market maintained an upward trend, and white cardboard showed a bottoming out rebound trend after a tentative increase in mid to late August among large-scale paper mills. Subsequently, white cardboard continued to rise, driving up the bottom of the paper price to some extent. As the release of orders during the Mid Autumn Festival and National Day gradually increases, paper mills and traders have raised the prices of white cardboard.

Although the upward trend of white cardboard market prices slowed down in late September, the overall paper market continued to recover and market confidence continued to improve. In the current context of intensified price competition, the production and sales of white card paper mills are stable, and inventory is at a low level. Therefore, the market intends to continue to raise prices. Due to cost pressures, traders are also reluctant to sell at low prices, resulting in a decrease in shipments. However, as the Double Festival approaches and downstream early orders are basically completed, the current increase in white cardboard is relatively slow, and businesses are mostly wait-and-see in the future.

By observing market changes, it can be seen that in early September, the price of domestic gray based white board paper stabilized slightly. Due to the previous issuance of price increase letters by paper mills, some traders were mostly in a state of implementing price increases, resulting in an increase in prices. However, the market supply pressure is relatively high, and paper mills are under pressure to ship. The supply-demand contradiction pattern is difficult to alleviate, and prices have subsequently stabilized. In addition, the overall inventory of the industry is still at a high level, and some paper mills have been shut down for maintenance in the early stage and actively removed from the warehouse. Downstream procurement is generally more cautious than in previous years.

In late September, the price of gray based white board paper steadily increased. Due to the early conversion of white board paper factories to other products, the supply of white board paper in the market decreased. With the arrival of the traditional peak season, market demand has started to rebound. In addition, the recent frequent price increase letters from finished paper mills have driven the price of gray base white board paper to rise.

According to the paper analysts of SunSirs, the peak season of the white board and paperboard market is usually from the month before the Mid Autumn Festival to March of the next year, so the price trend of the white board and paperboard may be stronger in recent years. However, the increase in market demand is limited, and there may not be much room for growth. It is expected that the prices of white cardboard and gray board will temporarily fluctuate and consolidate in the short term.
