The price of raw material methanol decreased, the cost of chloroform slightly decreased; The peak season for downstream refrigerants came to an end, the demand for R22 was weak and the support for chloroform was weak; The operation of the Luxi Chemical’s plant was at a low level, and the pressure on the supply surface of chloroform in the area was relatively low; Chloroform market slightly rose.

Analysis review

This week (5.15-5.22), the operating rate of the methane chloride unit fluctuated slightly, while the Luxi unit was operating at a low level.

This week (5.15-5.22), the price of raw material methanol decreased, and the cost of chloroform slightly decreased. According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of May 22, the spot price of methanol was 2,190 RMB/ton, a decrease of 6.21% from last Monday's 2,335 RMB/ton.

After entering May, the refrigeration market entered the end of the traditional peak season. The parking and maintenance prices of some downstream refrigerant R22 enterprises were temporarily stable, and in addition, the total production quota of R22 was reduced by 19% to 181,800 tons in 2023. After the peak season passes, support for chloroform will continue to be weak.

Market outlook

According to methane chloride data analysts from SunSirs, although the demand for chloroform is currently weak, coupled with a downward trend in cost, it is expected that the market for chloroform will be mainly consolidated to be weaker in the future.
