According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of May 7th, the average market price of isophthalic acid was 9,200 RMB/ton, an increase of 1.1% compared to last week.

In terms of cost

Xylene: The price of xylene in China had slightly decreased this week. On May 7th, the price of xylene was 7,600 RMB/ton, and on May 1st, the price of xylene was 7,680 RMB/ton, a decrease of 1.04% from last week. The demand for xylene blending was relatively weak, and as of the end of April, the operating capacity of refineries nationwide had slightly decreased to around 69%. Suxinhai Petrochemical's aromatics were shut down for maintenance on April 7th. In the later stage, there were still maintenance plans for toluene xylene units such as Zhenhai Refinery, Zhenghe Petrochemical, Dushanzi Petrochemical, and Dalian Xitai in May and June, and the supply of xylene is expected to decrease.

Acetic acid: The domestic acetic acid price remained stable this week. On May 7th, the price of acetic acid was 3,250 RMB/ton, which remained unchanged from last week. As of the end of April, the operating rate of acetic acid enterprises had returned to a relatively high level, and the supply of goods from suppliers was sufficient. Enterprises actively allocate inventory before the holiday, but the market atmosphere was relatively weak after the holiday.

In terms of demand

The operating rate of downstream factories had also increased, the demand side had improved, the focus of negotiations had increased, and the enthusiasm of operators had increased. The polyester factory consumed more inventory and long-term supply, resulting in an increase in terminal pick-up speed after the holiday.

Market outlook

Overall, the recent release of bearish news in the crude oil market had weakened the cost support for isophthalic acid. But the downstream demand center was improving, providing support for prices. It is expected that there is still room for upward movement in the market price of isophthalic acid.
