According to the commodity analysis system of SunSirs, the domestic maleic anhydride market has declined slightly recently. As of August 25, the average market price of maleic anhydride produced by n-butane oxidation remained at 5,680.00 RMB/ton, down 0.66% from 5,717.50 RMB/ton on August 18.

Analysis review

On the supply side, maleic anhydride prices have recently declined slightly overall. The recent suspension of bidding for Wanhua's Yantai site has led to an initial rise followed by a decline in prices for the East China site, with prices at major maleic anhydride factories following the upward and downward trends. As of August 25, Yantai Wanhua's three production lines were operating at 70% capacity, and liquid anhydride production at the Hubei Zhongneng facility has begun entering tanks. Maleic anhydride downstream unsaturated resin manufacturers were temporarily maintaining inventory to meet demand and adopting a wait-and-see approach. As of August 25th, the ex-factory price of maleic anhydride in Shandong Province was around 5,300 RMB/ton for solid anhydride and 4,750 RMB/ton for liquid anhydride.

On the upstream side: The price of n-butane has risen recently. As of August 25, the price in Shandong was around 4,750 RMB/ton.

Downstream: The unsaturated resin market was weak and stable. The downstream demand for unsaturated resin was limited, and the upstream raw material market was weak, which provided limited support for unsaturated resin. The market was weak and consolidating.

Market outlook

Analysts of maleic anhydride products at SunSirs believe that the recent rise in the price of n-butane, the upstream of maleic anhydride, has supported the cost of maleic anhydride; however, the market of the main downstream unsaturated resin was weak, and the purchase of maleic anhydride was limited, which hindered the rise in maleic anhydride prices.
