SunSirs: Commodity Trends Diverged in September: Precious Metals and Building Materials Led Gains, While Energy and Chemical Industries Were Under Pressure

In September 2025, the commodity market showed a significant divergence. According to SunSirs monitoring, the non-ferrous metals sector led the market with a monthly increase of 1.12%, with precious metals performing particularly well. Silver surged 13%, gold followed suit with a 10.72% gain, and cobalt prices soared 24.78%. The building materials sector followed closely behind, with a monthly increase of 2.04%, led by a strong 12.39% rise in glass.

In contrast, the energy and chemical sector was under pressure overall. Energy commodities fell an average of 1.33% on a monthly basis, with only coking coal rising 5.23% and thermal coal plummeting 7.29%. The chemical sector fell an average of 0.75% on a monthly basis. While hydrochloric acid saw a staggering 29.17% increase, products like sulfuric acid fell by over 14%. The rubber and plastics and textile sectors fell 1.62% and 1.57%, respectively.

Among agricultural and sideline products, egg prices surged by 12.71%, while live pig prices fell by 9.01%, indicating continued adjustments in the supply and demand structure of consumer goods. Overall, the bulk commodity market in September showed a notable trend of strength in precious metals and building materials, while weakness in basic raw materials.
