Recently, the Hami Natural Resources Bureau announced that in 2025, through the joint efforts of exploration units and mining professionals, Hami City achieved continuous breakthroughs in mineral discovery. For the first time, 4N5-grade high-purity quartz raw material deposits (with some reaching 4N8 grade) and basalt suitable for fiber production were discovered in Hami. Proven reserves of coal, copper, gold, titanium, iron, quartzite, dolomite, and other minerals continued to increase. Cumulative submissions include 11 billion tons of coal, 9.17 tons of gold, 2.72 million tons of iron, 30.67 million tons of titanium dioxide, 30.82 million tons of limestone, 13.08 million tons of quartzite, and 110 million tons of dolomite. Major discoveries include the Kusui-Shuanglong Gold Mine, Damazhuangshan titanium-iron ore deposit, Yuhai copper mine, Tenglongling gold mine, and Yemaquanxi gold mine. The city's mineral exploration achievements have been remarkable.
High-purity quartz raw materials are a special type of quartz resource used to manufacture high-tech products such as optical fibers, quartz crucibles, quartz glass, monocrystalline silicon, and polycrystalline silicon. Globally, high-grade quartz raw materials are in short supply. Natural crystal reserves are diminishing annually, becoming increasingly expensive and nearing depletion.
Basalt fiber is produced by melting basalt ore at high temperatures and drawing it into fibers. It contains silicates similar to natural minerals and is biodegradable in the environment after disposal. China has designated basalt fiber as one of four key fiber development priorities (alongside carbon fiber, aramid fiber, and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene). It finds extensive applications in fiber-reinforced composites, friction materials, shipbuilding materials, thermal insulation, automotive industries, high-temperature filtration fabrics, and protective equipment.
It is reported that in 2025, Hamid City's regional social and fiscal mineral exploration projects totaled 119, involving over 40 exploration units, with an investment of 572 million yuan and over 1,500 exploration personnel. To facilitate the smooth progress of mineral exploration, Hamid City organized specialized teams comprising units from both within and outside the region in 2025, establishing an expert technical guidance group to direct, supervise, and advance all tasks. In collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and the Hami Geological Brigade, the Hami Vanadium-Titanium Industry Joint Innovation Center and the Modern Geological Exploration Hami Technology Innovation Center were established. Based on downstream industrial needs, 12 municipal-level fiscal mineral exploration projects were scientifically established with an investment of 40 million yuan. Guidance was provided to two counties in planning county-level government-funded mineral exploration projects. Two water exploration projects were established around the Yaoye Miao Port and Hongling Border Inspection Station, with an investment of 4.69 million yuan. Leveraging local and Xinjiang aid experts, oversight of privately funded projects was continuously strengthened, and private exploration investment was steadily increased, with 370 million yuan allocated for exploration. This effectively prevented the occurrence of “land grabbing without exploration.”
In 2026, Hami City will continue collaborating with the China Geological Survey, the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and the Henan Provincial Bureau of Geology to plan municipal-level mineral exploration projects, enrich the project database, and actively submit concession blocks to the Department of Natural Resources, thereby safeguarding national energy and resource security.
