SunSirs: Weaker Cost Support, Isobutene Market Narrowly Declined This Week
May 28 2024 10:30:34SunSirs(John)

Price trend

According to the monitoring of the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the isobutene market had declined narrowly this week. As of May 24th, the mainstream price of isobutene (≥ 99, bulk) in China was 12,050 RMB/ton, a decrease of 150 RMB/ton or 1.23% compared to last week.

Analysis review

Cost side:

International crude oil: The overall narrow decline in international oil prices was mainly due to the positive progress in the ceasefire negotiations between Palestine and Israel, the easing of geopolitical tensions, and the still bearish outlook for global demand.

From May 13th to 24th, the price of MTBE had dropped from 6,975 RMB/ton to 6,775 RMB/ton, with a price drop of 2.87% during the cycle, a month on month decrease of 9.75%, and a year-on-year decrease of 9.00%. The domestic MTBE market continued to be weaker and the decline had intensified. As of May 24th, the overall operating rate of the equipment was relatively high, and the situation of abundant domestic resource supply continued.

Market outlook

This week, the isobutene market saw a narrow decline, while the upstream MTBE market continued to operate to be weaker. The overall narrow decline in international oil prices weakened support for the isobutene market. On the supply and demand side, due to the shutdown and maintenance of some enterprise facilities, the supply of isobutylene will be tightened next week. Downstream users of isobutylene purchased on demand, and market transactions were mainly small orders. The demand side for isobutene was bearish. It is expected that the isobutene market will be mainly consolidated to be weaker.
