Calcium carbide: Domestic calcium carbide prices have remained stable this week. On May 8th, the price of calcium carbide was 2,883 RMB/ton, which remained unchanged from last week. The maintenance of domestic calcium carbide equipment had led to a decrease in supply and an increase in downstream operating load, driving prices to remain stable.

Acetic acid: The domestic price of acetic acid had increased this week. On May 8th, the price of acetic acid was 3,300 RMB/ton, and on May 1st, the price of acetic acid was 3,250 RMB/ton, an increase of 1.54% from last week. As of May 8th, the operating rate of acetic acid enterprises had returned to a relatively high level, and the supply of goods from suppliers was sufficient. Enterprises actively arranged inventory before the holiday, and the focused of market negotiations increases after the holiday.

In terms of demand

The domestic EVA market had not yet recovered after the holiday, and the demand side had continued to be weak, making it difficult to digest the abundant supply of goods on the market. The PVC spot market lacked favorable support, and downstream demand was still dominated by rigid demand.

Market outlook

Overall, the downstream market had performed poorly, with weakened support for vinyl acetate and average on exchange trading. It is expected that the vinyl acetate market will be consolidated to be weaker in the short term.
