According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of April 28th, the average market price of methyl acetate was 4,387 RMB/ton, which remained unchanged from Monday.

In terms of cost

Methanol: Domestic methanol prices had slightly decreased this week. On April 28th, the price of methanol was 2,620 RMB/ton, and on April 22nd, the price of methanol was 2,715 RMB/ton, a decrease of 3.5% from Monday. The domestic methanol supply had decreased, but the demand had not changed much. In addition, some downstream companies had started stocking up before the May Day holiday, and production enterprises continued to reduce their inventory.

Acetic acid: The domestic price of acetic acid had dropped this week. On April 28th, the price of acetic acid was 3,350 RMB/ton, and on April 22nd, it was 3,450 RMB/ton, a decrease of 2.9% compared to Monday. The acetic acid market was running weakly this week. In the early stage, the failure and shutdown of the Jiangsu Sopu plant, as well as the decrease in the load of the Tianalkali plant, led to a significant decrease in the utilization rate of on-site production capacity, a decrease in manufacturer inventory, and a sustained increase in acetic acid quotations. As downstream restocking continued, the demand for purchasing in the market gradually stabilized, and the market trading atmosphere weakened, resulting in a decrease in acetic acid prices.

Market outlook

Overall, the market prices of crude methyl ester and refined methyl ester were mainly stable. At the beginning of this week, most large factories had stabilized their quotations, while some manufacturers had slightly increased their quotations. Insufficient upstream support and poor market trading atmosphere are expected to result in a sideways consolidation of the methyl acetate market in the short term.
