SunSirs: Analysis of Acetic Anhydride Price Trend in 2019

According to the monitoring of SunSirs data, the price of acetic anhydride has fluctuated and adjusted in 2019, and the overall price has declined in an "N" shape. As of December 17, the average quotation price of acetic anhydride enterprises was 4,475.00 RMB/ton, which was a sharp drop from the acetic anhydride quote of 6,033.33 RMB/ton at the beginning of 2019 (January 1), a decrease of 25.83%; the price fell 29.34% from the same period last year. Since acetic anhydride soared in October 2017, acetic anhydride prices have remained high. Starting at the end of October 2018, the price of acetic anhydride began a long "return journey". As of December 2019, the average price of acetic anhydride has fallen to about 4,400 RMB/ton, returning to the average level of acetic anhydride in 2017 years. In the price trend of acetic anhydride in 2019, the price of acetic anhydride is clearly divided into 3 stages.

 

[1] The first stage: the price of acetic anhydride fell steadily

In addition to the slight temporary rebound of acetic anhydride due to factors such as transportation during the Spring Festival in 2019, acetic anhydride continued the downward trend since October 2018 in the first half of 2019, and the price of acetic anhydride fell sharply. As of June 1, the price of acetic anhydride had fallen sharply from the beginning of the year, a decline of 23.20%.

[2] The second stage: acetic anhydride price rising period

From June to August 2019, the price of acetic anhydride increased. As of August 17, 2019, the price of acetic anhydride was 7,066.67 RMB/ton, an increase of 52.52% over the price of acetic anhydride on June 1. Due to the centralized maintenance of acetic anhydride manufacturers in June and the explosion of acetic acid manufacturers' equipment in July, the prices of acetic acid and methanol have skyrocketed. The prices of acetic anhydride raw materials have risen, and the price of acetic anhydride has increased in the short term.

[3] The third stage: acetic anhydride market fell

Beginning in late August, as the operating rate of acetic anhydride enterprises rebounded, the upward trend of acetic anhydride prices was suspended and prices fell. Since September, the prices of acetic anhydride raw materials, acetic acid and methanol have fallen sharply, the prices of acetic anhydride raw materials have fallen, and the prices of acetic anhydride have fallen sharply. As of December 19, the price of acetic anhydride was 4,475.00 RMB/ton, 36.67% lower than the highest price in 2019 (August 17).

 

Market outlook

According to acetic anhydride data analyst of SunSirs, the price of acetic anhydride in 2019 generally shows a downward trend. Although there was a short-term rise in June and July, it is more because of force majeure factors such as manufacturer's equipment maintenance and equipment explosion, and the basic relationship between supply and demand of acetic anhydride has not changed fundamentally. After a short-term soaring, the price of acetic anhydride began to return to a downward trend. By December, the price of acetic anhydride fell back to about 4400 RMB/ton. The price has recovered to the average price level before the soaring price of acetic anhydride in 2017, and the supply and demand of acetic anhydride are basically balanced. The market of acetic anhydride in the future has lost the price support of acetic anhydride shortage. The price of raw materials of acetic anhydride is basically stable. It is expected that the price of acetic anhydride in the future will fluctuate and maintain stable. In 2020, the price of acetic anhydride will fluctuate with the price of raw materials and the impact of supply and demand, but it is difficult to have the market for 18 years. The price of acetic anhydride may fluctuate and adjust between 4,400-5,000.
