The supply and demand side dragged down the price of chloroform in May, which fell sharply. According to the data monitoring of SunSirs, as of May 31, the price of chloroform in bulk water in Shandong was 3,350 RMB/ton, down 38.95% from the the price of 5,487 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month.
Since May, the start-up of domestic methane chloride plants increased to around 80-90%. The Jinling plant in Shandong was running at 90% of the load, Dongyue was running at full capacity, and the Luxi plant was running at 80%. The construction of Liwen, Meilan, Juhua and other enterprises in Jiangsu and Zhejiang was also high. In addition, Dongying Huatai's new first-phase 160,000-ton/year methane chloride plant was scheduled to be put into operation in the near future, further increasing the domestic supply pressure.
In May, the spot price of raw material methanol fell slightly, and the cost side weakened slightly. According to the understanding of SunSirs, as of May 31, the price of methanol was 2,617 RMB/ton, down 4.64% from the price of 2,745 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month.
The production and sales of air conditioners had shrunk, and the demand for refrigerants was insufficient. The start-up of refrigerant R22 plants continued to be low, and the demand side was weak.
The methane chloride data analyst of SunSirs believes that the lower cost side and the weakening of downstream demand make the chloroform market weak as a whole. However, after the sharp drop in May, the risk of chloroform falling gradually decreased, and the price of chloroform is expected to fluctuate weakly in the later period.
