On February 4th, the National Bureau of Statistics released the changes in market prices of important means of production in the circulation sector in late January 2026. According to monitoring of market prices of 50 important means of production in 9 major categories in the circulation sector nationwide, the price of live pigs (external Sanyuan) in late January 2026 was 12.7 RMB/kg compared to mid January, a decrease of 1.6% compared to the previous month.
The price of live pigs decreased by 1.6% month on month, indicating an oversupply or insufficient demand in the market, which puts downward pressure on spot prices. This data reflects a short-term supply-demand imbalance, which may be due to an increase in output from the breeding sector or a weak consumer market, which is bearish for the spot market.
