On Monday, December 29th, government data showed that India's crude oil imports in November increased by 0.2% month on month, reaching 21.06 million tons, the highest level since March.
India is the world's third largest importer and consumer of oil, and import data is an important indicator of its oil demand.
According to data from the Indian Petroleum Planning and Analysis Group, crude oil imports in November increased by 11.1% compared to the same period last year, with 18.95 million tons.
The import of crude oil products in November decreased by about 8.6% year-on-year to 4.25 million tons; The export of crude oil products decreased by 1.7% year-on-year to 5.25 million tons.
Trade insiders say that India's imports of Russian oil in December are expected to exceed 1 million barrels per day, which contradicts expectations for refineries to resume purchasing oil from non sanctioned entities that offer significant discounts.
A senior executive of Chennai Petroleum Corp in India announced on December 18th that the company plans to expand the production capacity of its Manali refinery in South India from 210,000 barrels per day to 280,000 barrels per day and enter the fuel retail industry.
