SunSirs: A Large Gold Deposit Was Discovered in Jilin Province

December 23 2025 09:51:54

Recently, reporters learned from the Jilin Provincial Department of Geology and Mineral Resources that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Jilin Province has achieved remarkable results in geological exploration and mining, discovering 47 mineral deposits suitable for further exploration and evaluation; and identifying 27 super-large, large, and medium-sized mineral deposits. This year, significant breakthroughs have been made in gold exploration in the Yitong area, crystalline graphite exploration in the Ji'an area, and polymetallic mineral exploration in the Huadian area.

Further breakthroughs have been made in gold exploration in the Yitong area. Last year, significant progress was made in the exploration of the Houliuhezi gold mine in Yitong, with 22 tons of gold resources identified. Following this success, the Jilin Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources continued its efforts and successfully discovered another large gold deposit in the nearby Erdaoling area, with resources totaling 38 tons. Currently, the exploration depth of both deposits does not exceed 500 meters, and neither the strike nor the dip of the ore bodies has been fully delineated. In 2025, the Jilin Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources discovered several new gold ore bodies in the surrounding area.  Further work is expected to increase the total gold resources in this region to over 100 tons. This lays the foundation for developing the Yitong area into another important gold mining cluster in Jilin Province, providing strong support for the province's mineral resource security, related industrial upgrading, and high-quality economic development.

New achievements have been made in the exploration of crystalline graphite deposits in the Ji'an area. Crystalline graphite, a key mineral resource in Jilin Province, is a core raw material for new energy, electronic information, and other fields. In recent years, the Jilin Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources has focused on systematic exploration in the Ji'an area, successfully identifying a crystalline graphite metallogenic belt approximately 29 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide. To date, the Jilin Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources has identified 12 high-quality mineral deposits within this metallogenic belt, with proven reserves of 8.29 million tons and a potential economic value of 54 billion yuan. Both the resource scale and ore grade rank among the highest in the province. In 2025, the Jilin Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources will deploy three special exploration projects in this area, which are expected to add another 2-3 mineral deposits, pushing the total resource scale towards the ten-million-ton level. Based on this, the Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources is continuously deepening exploration efforts to create a ten-million-ton-level graphite mining cluster in Ji'an, providing a stable supply of raw materials for extending, supplementing, and strengthening the graphite industry chain in the province.

Significant discoveries have been made in polymetallic mineral exploration in the Huadian area. Through nearly two years of geological ex

ploration, a mineral deposit containing six coexisting metals—copper, nickel, cobalt, gold, platinum, and palladium—has been discovered for the first time in Jilin Province. The average grade of each metal element is higher than typical industrial standards. The region has numerous large-scale rock formations of this type, indicating significant potential for further mineral discoveries. Platinum and palladium are critical materials in fields such as chemical engineering, medicine, and hydrogen fuel cells, while cobalt and nickel are indispensable in several important sectors. This type of deposit allows for the comprehensive recovery of multiple minerals through a single mining operation, efficiently securing industrial resource needs while minimizing ecological damage. Currently, the Jilin Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources is accelerating the deployment of further exploration efforts to provide strong support for the coordinated advancement of industrial upgrading and ecological protection in the province.
