According to the China Machinery Industry Federation, China's machinery industry experienced rapid development in industrial scale, foreign trade, and innovation capabilities during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, laying a solid foundation for advancing new industrialization.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China's machinery industry achieved an average annual growth rate of over 7.1% in value-added output, exceeding the national average for industry and manufacturing during the same period. The number of enterprises above designated size increased from 92,000 to 137,000 by the end of October 2025. Import and export volumes surpassed the trillion-dollar mark for five consecutive years.
Concurrently, innovation capabilities have continuously strengthened. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the industry released 4,487 national and mechanical industry standards, with an international standard conversion rate exceeding 92%. China has become one of the countries with the most comprehensive range of product categories and varieties, with 13 enterprises ranking among the world's top 50 construction machinery manufacturers. Furthermore, the advantages of industrial clusters have become increasingly prominent, with enterprises in the machinery sector accounting for one-quarter of the 300 national-level specialized industrial clusters for small and medium-sized enterprises.
During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, China's machinery industry will focus on enhancing the resilience and security of industrial and supply chains while accelerating the cultivation of new productive forces. The core emphasis will be on transforming and upgrading the machinery sector toward intelligent, green, and integrated development.
