SunSirs: China's Coal Output Reaches 3.97 Billion Tons in First 10 Months, Up 1.5% Year-on-Year

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China's raw coal production at enterprises above designated size remained at a relatively high level in October, while crude oil and natural gas production grew steadily and electricity generation saw a notable acceleration in growth.
Raw coal production maintained a relatively high level. In October, China's raw coal output at enterprises above designated size reached 410 million tons, down 2.3% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year decline. From January to October, industrial raw coal output from enterprises above designated size reached 3.97 billion tons, up 1.5% year-on-year, with the growth rate continuing to narrow.
Separately, data released by the General Administration of Customs on November 7 showed China imported 41.737 million tons of coal in October 2025, down 4.511 million tons or 9.75% from 46.248 million tons in the same period last year. Compared with September's imports of 46.003 million tons, October imports decreased by 4.266 million tons, a drop of 9.27%. From January to October 2025, China imported a total of 387.623 million tons of coal, down 11% year-on-year.

On November 24, thermal coal prices at northern ports were: 5800 kcal/kg at 865-875 RMB/ton , 5500 kcal/kg at 830-840 RMB/ton , 5000 kcal/kg at 740-750 RMB/ton , and 4500 kcal/kg at 650-660 RMB/ton .
