SunSirs: China's Steel Product Exports in September 2025

In September 2025, exports of major steel product categories in China increased month-on-month alongside the overall growth in export volume. Exports of hot-rolled coils and coated sheets (strips) showed significant growth.

In September, China's steel exports to ASEAN-10, AU-55, and GCC-6 countries expanded significantly, while exports to EU-27 declined month-on-month.

By product category, only three out of 22 major steel product types showed a month-on-month decline in September: seamless steel pipes, bars, and cold-rolled sheets. Exports of major categories such as coated plates (strips), medium-thick wide steel strips, coated plates (strips), hot-rolled thin wide steel strips, and cold-rolled thin wide steel strips rebounded significantly month-on-month, with growth rates all exceeding 10%. From January to September, coated steel sheets (strips) remained the largest cumulative export category, accounting for 17.5% of total steel exports. Cumulative exports of hot-rolled coils continued to decline year-on-year, with the year-on-year decline in cumulative exports of medium-thick wide steel strips and hot-rolled thin wide steel strips widening. In September, export unit prices for most products remained relatively stable. Railway materials and cold-rolled narrow steel strip saw significant month-on-month increases of 11.4% and 9.5%, respectively, while hot-rolled narrow steel strip and welded steel pipes experienced notable declines of 8.4% and 6.9%. From January to September, export unit prices for all 21 product categories except hot-rolled narrow steel strips declined year-on-year, while the year-on-year growth rate for hot-rolled narrow steel strips continued to expand.

In September, billet exports decreased by 15.3% month-on-month, while the export unit price remained largely unchanged from the previous month. Cumulative exports from January to September approached 11 million tons, averaging approximately 1.2 million tons per month, with the year-on-year decline in export unit price continuing to narrow.
