SunSirs: China Edible Oil Imports Decline Year-on-year in 2025
October 21 2025 10:03:30     SunSirs (Selena)The latest customs data shows that in September 2025, China imported 560,000 tons of edible oil, a decrease of 11% compared to the same period last year. From January to September 2025, China imported a total of 5.01 million tons of edible oil, a decrease of 7.1% compared to the same period last year.
Customs data shows that China's imports of edible oil decreased by 11% year-on-year in September 2025, with a cumulative decrease of 7.1% from January to September. The reduction in supply may lead to a shortage of domestic rapeseed oil spot supply, pushing up prices. Based on futures market data, the settlement price of rapeseed oil contract 2605 (Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange) is 9,526 RMB/ton, with a daily increase of 38 RMB/ton, indicating stable demand and optimistic market expectations, further strengthening the bullish impact.
Imported edible oil decreased by 11% (September) and 7.1% (January September) year-on-year, covering varieties such as soybean oil. The reduced supply may boost soybean oil spot prices. Futures market data supports this view, with soybean oil contracts such as 2605 (Dalian Commodity Exchange) settling at 8108 RMB/ton, a daily increase of 30 RMB/ton, and changes in trading volume and holdings indicating a bullish sentiment in the market.
