SunSirs: India's Sugar Exports May Be Below 800,000 Tons in 2025

According to foreign media reports, due to the increase in Brazilian supply, global sugar prices have been lowered, weakening India's competitiveness in sugar exports. As of September 30, 2025, India's sugar export volume may be less than 800,000 tons this year, failing to achieve the quota target of 1 million tons.
As the world's largest sugar producer, India approved the export of 1 million tons of sugar in January this year, aiming to help sugar mills sell excess inventory in the global market and support domestic sugar prices that have fallen to a year and a half low. Officials who declined to be named stated that Indian sugar factories have so far signed contracts to export about 750,000 tons, and have actually shipped about 720,000 tons. They stated that even according to the most optimistic estimate, the sugar factory is unlikely to sign any more export contracts exceeding 25,000 tons before the end of this month, which will result in a total export volume of approximately 775,000 tons for 2024-2025.
