Indian officials have stated that due to abundant sugar supply in the new season, the world's second-largest sugar producing country will have the conditions to resume exports in the new fiscal year (starting in October).
Srivastava, Joint Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, pointed out at an international conference that the prospects for new season sugar production are promising, and there will still be surplus for export after meeting domestic consumption and ethanol production needs. However, he did not disclose the specific export scale.
In the current fiscal year ending at the end of September, India still approved the export of 1 million tons of sugar despite a decrease in production.
