SunSirs: China Exports 9.51 Million Tons of Steel in August 2025

Customs data shows China exported 9.51 million tons of steel in August 2025, down 326,000 tons or 3.3% month-on-month. Cumulative steel exports from January to August reached 77.49 million tons, marking a 10.0% year-on-year increase.
China imported 500,000 metric tons of steel in August, an increase of 48,000 metric tons from the previous month, representing a month-on-month growth of 10.6%. Cumulative steel imports from January to August reached 3.977 million metric tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.1%.
China imported 105.225 million metric tons of iron ore and its concentrates in August, an increase of 602,000 metric tons from the previous month, representing a month-on-month growth of 0.6%. Cumulative imports from January to August reached 801.618 million tons, down 1.6% year-on-year.
China imported 42.737 million tons of coal and lignite in August, up 7.128 million tons from the previous month, representing a 20.0% month-on-month increase. Cumulative imports from January to August totaled 299.937 million tons, down 12.2% year-on-year.
As an integrated internet platform providing benchmark prices, on September 9th, the benchmark price for steel billets on SunSirs was 3,030.00 RMB/ton, down 2.26% from 3,100.00 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month.
On September 9th, the benchmark price for rebar on SunSirs was 3,149.50 RMB/ton, down 2.37% from 3,226.00 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month.
