August 13 2025 13:49:28     SunSirs (John)

Last week, ethylene glycol prices fluctuated and rose

Ethylene glycol prices fluctuated and rose slightly last week. According to data from SunSirs, as of August 12, the average price of domestic oil-based ethylene glycol was 4,483.33 RMB/ton, up 1.09% from the average price of 4,435 RMB/ton on August 1.

Analysis review

Regarding port ethylene glycol, the spot price of the port ethylene glycol contract strengthened slightly on August 12, 2025, with the night trading session consolidating in a narrow range. The spot contract basis last week ranged from +76 to +79 RMB/ton, with the intraday basis weakening slightly. In the afternoon, the intraday basis ranged from +72 to +75 RMB/ton. By the close of trading, the low-hanging basis in the night session was between +77 and +78 RMB/ton.

The spot price of domestic coal-based polyester-grade ethylene glycol (bulk, tax included, self-pickup) was 4,050-4,100 RMB/ton.

Regarding the overseas ethylene glycol market, recent cargoes were negotiated at around $526-527/ton. Subsequently, the market strengthened, with recent cargoes trading around $528-531/ton. In the afternoon, recent cargoes were sold at around $531/ton, with some suppliers participating in replenishment. Furthermore, a Taiwanese tender was concluded at around $532/ton, with a volume of 3,000 tons.

Future outlook:

There is a weaker expectation for the arrival volume of foreign ships around mid-August. The overall supply and demand are relatively stable, and there is a positive expectation for long-term demand. It is expected that in the short term, ethylene glycol will fluctuate sideways and strengthen with a high probability, and attention will be paid to changes in the equipment in the future.
