Ethylene glycol prices began to soften last week

Ethylene glycol prices began to soften lat week. According to SunSirs’ data, as of July 31st, the average domestic price of oil-based ethylene glycol was 4,436.67 RMB/ton, down 0.60% from the previous Friday's average price of 4,463.33 RMB/ton and up 0.91% from the average price of 4,396.67 RMB/ton on July 1st.

Regarding imported ethylene glycol, the spot price of port ethylene glycol contracts on July 31, 2025, initially strengthened but then weakened, trading in the range of 4,480-4,490 RMB/ton. The intraday basis strengthened slightly. Last week, the intraday basis ranged from +67 to +72. After the close of trading, the low-hanging basis in the night session was between +73 and +74.

The spot price of domestic coal-based polyester-grade ethylene glycol (bulk, tax-inclusive, self-collection) for a full truckload was 3,950-4,100 RMB/ton.

As for overseas ethylene glycol, as of July 28, the CIF price in China was $528/ton, and the CIF price in Southeast Asia was $546/ton.

Port inventories were relatively low in July

Port ethylene glycol inventories accumulated significantly from January to mid-February, then fluctuated sideways from March to April. From May to June 2025, ethylene glycol inventories at major ports in East China decreased significantly, and port inventories were temporarily relatively low as of July 31. As of July 28, total ethylene glycol inventories at major ports in East China reached 456,500 tons, a decrease of 85,500 tons from the 542,000 tons on July 3.
