SunSirs: During the Off-season, the Price of White Sugar has Fallen in China

According to the monitoring of the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the average price of first grade white sugar in China was 6,252 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week, and 6,248 RMB/ton at the end of the week, with a price drop of 0.06%.

Domestically, market consumption is in the off-season, and with the opening of the import profit window, there may be greater pressure on subsequent arrivals. The expectation of loose supply is suppressing the high rise in sugar prices. As of the end of April 2025, the cumulative sugar production in China was 11.11 million tons, an increase of 1.15 million tons year-on-year. It is expected that sugar consumption will remain stable with a slight increase in the new year, and the gap between sugar production and demand will remain basically stable. The import volume will remain unchanged at 5 million tons.

In Brazil, the weather conditions in the second half of April were unfavorable for harvesting, resulting in a significant year-on-year decrease in sugarcane crushing volume. It is expected that the sugar production will continue to remain high during the 2025/26 crushing season, and we will pay attention to the subsequent production situation. The Indian side expects to export about 800,000 tons of sugar during the 2024/25 crushing season (as of September this year), which is lower than the government's previously allowed quota of 1 million tons.

Due to sufficient supply and weak transactions during the domestic crushing season, it is expected that sugar prices will mainly fluctuate and weaken in the short term.
