SunSirs: February 2024 Saw a Stable White Card and a Downward Trend in the White Board

March 01 2024 10:37:10     SunSirs (Selena)

According to the monitoring of the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the price of white cardboard remained stable in February, while the price of gray background white cardboard slightly declined. On February 27th, the average market price of 230g-400g white cardboard in China was 5,206.67 RMB/ton, which remained stable compared to the average market price of 5,206.67 RMB/ton on February 1st. On February 27th, the average market price of 250g white board paper in China was 3,999 RMB/ton, a decrease of 0.83% compared to the average market price of 4,032.33 RMB/ton on February 1st.

Stable operation of white cardboard prices in February

By observing market changes, it can be seen that the price of white cardboard in February was mainly stable. Due to the impact of the Spring Festival holiday, the overall market showed a weak trend of supply and demand, and market quotations were mainly stable. In early February, the downstream market basically stopped purchasing and entered the holiday period. In addition, the weather and Spring Festival affected logistics, resulting in almost no transactions in the market.

After the Spring Festival holiday, white cardboard is supported by costs, and large-scale paper companies have the intention to increase inventory. However, enterprise inventory needs to be digested, and downstream demand is still in a recovery state. The market has a strong wait-and-see sentiment, and the motivation for paper price adjustment is not strong. Currently, some companies have issued price increase letters for white cardboard, but the market implementation still needs attention.

The price of gray background whiteboard paper slightly decreased in February

By observing market changes, it can be seen that the price of gray background whiteboard paper in China showed a downward trend in February. In the early stage of the Spring Festival holiday, more large-scale paper mills began to shut down for maintenance in February, and some small and medium-sized factories gradually shut down for maintenance in January. Therefore, there is not much room to alleviate market supply pressure. In addition, as the Spring Festival orders gradually enter the final stage, dealers still have no intention of replenishing inventory, mainly focusing on clearing inventory, resulting in insufficient market demand. Some traders are still lowering prices and increasing shipments.

After the end of the Spring Festival holiday, many regions in China experienced rainy and snowy weather, which hindered the shipment of paper mills and slightly increased supply pressure. However, the recovery of market turnover after the festival is relatively slow, and the enthusiasm for downstream construction is not high. Most downstream operators plan to resume work after the RMBxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival), so most dealers have no intention of replenishing the inventory, and there are few market orders. In addition, due to the impact of weather, logistics transportation has been hindered and transportation vehicles have decreased, resulting in an increase in transportation costs. Therefore, the market is temporarily wait-and-see.

The paper analysts of the business community believe that the current market trading has yet to be resumed, and there are few market transactions. Most businesses will wait and see the recovery of market trading after the RMBxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival) Festival, and pay more attention to the recent price policy of large-scale paper mills. With the gradual recovery of market supply and demand, the trading atmosphere in the market may improve, and it is expected that the prices of white cardboard and gray background whiteboard will remain stable in the short term.
