SunSirs: JSW and ArcelorMittal commit to Orissa's steel industry

February 26 2020 14:59:03     SunSirs (Molly)

The state of Orissa in India has rich mineral resources and can continue to promote the development of the Indian steel industry. Recently, JSW Chairman SajjanJindal and ArcelorMittal Chairman AdityaMittal arrived in Orissa to discuss the development of the steel industry in the region. The development strategies of the two sides are different.

JSW has acquired the Bhushan PowerandSteel steel plant in Orissa with a bankruptcy resolution with an annual capacity of 3.5 million tons. JSW also said it is committed to building a 10-million-ton-a-year steel plant along the coast of Jagatsinghpur. Recently, at the mining electronics auction in Orissa, India, JSW has won four new mines with a total annual iron ore production capacity of 27.7 million tons and reserves of more than 1 billion tons.

Lu'an Celler Mittal chose a moderate development route and acquired only an operating iron ore mine, Thakurani Mine (a total of 19 iron ore mines were auctioned), with an annual capacity of 5.5 million tons. Fifteen years after entering the Indian market, the world's leading steel company partnered with Nippon Steel to acquire the bankrupt Essar Steel. The Essar pellet plant is located in the Paradip area, next to JSW's new steel plant.
