According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, the ex factory prices of calcium carbide in the northwest region temporarily stabilized this week. The average ex factory price of mainstream calcium carbide manufacturers in northwest China this week was 3,150.00 RMB/ton. Weekend prices fell by 27.86% year-on-year.

On June 4th, the calcium carbide commodity index was 82.53 points, unchanged from the previous day, a decrease of 61.11% from the cycle's highest point of 212.23 points (2021-10-26), and an increase of 48.73% from the lowest point of 55.49 points on March 14th, 2016. (Note: The cycle refers to the period from September 1st, 2011 to the present)

Upstream support weakened, downstream demand was average

From the supply side perspective, the ex factory prices of calcium carbide in the northwest region temporarily stabilized this week, and the manufacturer's inventory was average. The Ove Geneng’s calcium carbide device was still under maintenance and is expected to start construction on June 25th; The price of calcium carbide for Inner Mongolia Zhonglian this weekend was 3,150 RMB/ton, which wass temporarily stable compared to the beginning of the week; The price of calcium carbide in Xingping, Ningxia this weekend was 3,150 RMB/ton, and compared to the beginning of the week, the quotation was temporarily stable.

The upstream semi-coke market declined slightly, while the downstream PVC market price fluctuated slightly. This weekend, the price of Shenmu semi-coke was around 1,200 RMB/ton, and the price had dropped by about 100 RMB/ton. The PVC market price this week rose from 5,546.00 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week to 5,548.00 RMB/ton at the end of the week, up 0.04%. Weekend prices fell by 34.46% year-on-year. The price of PVC market rose slightly, and downstream customers were not enthusiastic about calcium carbide procurement. The downstream PVC market had a negative impact on calcium carbide prices.

Market outlook

In mid to late June, the calcium carbide market may experience a narrow range of fluctuations and declines. The price of raw material semi-coke slightly decreased, cost support weakened, and the downstream PVC market stabilized at a low level, downstream demand was general. In mid to late June, the price of calcium carbide in the northwest region may fluctuate and decline in a narrow range, with consolidation being the main trend.
