SunSirs: Iran's Alumina Production in the Previous Year was 225942 Tons

According to data from the Iranian Mining and Mining Development and Innovation Organization (IMIDRO), Iran has produced 225942 tons of alumina in the past 1401 years (as of March 20, 2023), a year-on-year decrease of 2%. However, in the first three quarters of the year (March 21 to December 21, 2022), alumina production showed an increasing trend.

In the first three quarters of Iran, its alumina production was 176239 tons, an increase of 1% from 175284 tons in the same period last year. However, in the last quarter, Iran's alumina production significantly decreased by 13.40% month on month to 49703 tons. Iran's alumina production in the third quarter was 57394 tons, a month on month increase of 1.5%.

In the first half of the year, Iran's alumina production was 118845 tons, an increase of 2.28% from 116192 tons a year ago. But in the second half of the year, alumina production decreased by 9.9% to 107097 tons.

It is reported that 80% of Iran's domestic demand for alumina is met through imports, which costs $1 billion annually. At present, Iran is researching the use of low-grade bauxite to increase the annual production of alumina to 500000 tons/year. Once successful, Iran's alumina can achieve self-sufficiency.
