SunSirs: U.S. Shale Output to Rise to Highest Since December 2019 in April

March 14 2023 09:55:33

Foreign news on March 13, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a drilling productivity report on Monday that shale oil production in seven major U.S. shale basins is expected to rise to the highest level since December 2019 in April.

Shale oil production is expected to rise by 68,000 bpd, the smallest increase since December 2022, to 9.21 million bpd, EIA data showed.

The Permian Basin, located in Texas and New Mexico, is the largest shale oil basin in the United States, and crude oil production is expected to rise to 5.62 million barrels per day. While that would be a record high, oil production is expected to rise by 26,000 bpd from the previous month, the smallest increase since December, the data showed.

In North Dakota and the Bakken region of Montana, output would rise by 18,000 bpd to 1.16 million bpd, the highest since March 2022.

Crude production in the Eagle Ford region of South Texas will rise by 9,000 bpd to 1.13 million bpd, the highest since April 2020.

EIA expects total natural gas production from large shale basins to rise by about 400 million cubic feet per day in April to a record 96.6 billion cubic feet per day.

In Appalachia, the largest shale gas basin in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, output will rise to 35 billion cubic feet per day in April, the highest since November 2022.

This compares to 36 Bcf/d of natural gas production in Appalachia in December 2021.

In April, natural gas production in the Permian Basin and Haynesville regions of Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas will rise to record highs of 22.5 billion cubic feet per day and 16.8 billion cubic feet per day, respectively.

Natural gas production in the Appalachian region is expected to increase even as production from new wells in the region has declined for 25 straight months.

Production in Appalachia is expected to fall to 24.2 million cubic feet per day per new rig drilling in April, the lowest level since June 2020, the EIA said.

In March 2021, the Appalachian region produced a record 33.3 million barrels per day per new gas well.
