China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. announced that from January to November this year, state railways transported a cumulative total of 3.727 billion tons of freight, marking a 2.7% year-on-year increase. The daily average of loaded freight cars reached 187,000, up 3.7% year-on-year. The competitive edge of “China Railway Logistics” has become increasingly prominent, providing robust support for reducing logistics costs across society and ensuring the stable operation of the national economy.
A representative from the freight department of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. stated that since the beginning of this year, the railway sector has accelerated the development of a modern railway logistics system, continuously optimized product offerings, and enhanced the functionality of the 95306 freight platform.
The railway sector has closely aligned with market demands, actively integrated into corporate supply chains, and vigorously developed bulk direct trains, intercity express freight trains, specialized logistics trains for niche markets, and cold chain logistics trains. Customized services have been implemented to meet diverse transportation needs. From January to November, national railways transported a cumulative total of 15.789 million TEUs of intermodal rail-water container cargo, marking a 15.4% year-on-year increase. The “single-document” intermodal logistics product recorded cumulative bookings of 34,000 TEUs.
For cross-border freight transportation, railway authorities strengthened coordination with domestic customs and overseas railway operators to enhance port efficiency. The fourth batch of full-route timetables for China-Europe freight trains was released, expanding the number of routes operating under full timetables to 17 and increasing weekly departures to 22 trains, ensuring safe, efficient, stable, and uninterrupted cross-border cargo transport. From January to November, China-Europe (Asia) freight trains operated 31,200 trips, marking a 9.0% year-on-year increase. In November alone, China-Europe freight trains ran 1,852 trips—a 21% year-on-year surge and a record monthly high. The China-Laos Railway transported 4.98 million tons of cross-border cargo, up 15% year-on-year. The Western Land-Sea New Channel transported 1.31 million TEUs of containers, up 55% year-on-year, effectively promoting international economic and trade exchanges.
Meanwhile, railway authorities strengthened the transportation of key materials. From January to November, national railways transported 8.5% more smelting materials and 10.0% more grain compared to the same period last year. In response to recent cold waves, strong winds, and temperature drops in some regions, railways meticulously organized coal supply transportation to actively support winter peak demand across the country. By the end of November, coal reserves at power plants directly supplied by national railways remained at a high level, with power plants holding less than 15 days' worth of coal reserves achieving dynamic clearance.
