On December 9th, it was announced that the Jimsar National-Level Onshore Shale Oil Demonstration Zone, my country's first national-level onshore shale oil demonstration zone, completed its construction targets ahead of schedule, with annual production exceeding 1.7 million tons for the first time, setting a new historical record.
Shale oil is a petroleum resource found in shale formations, with a permeability only one ten-thousandth that of conventional oil reservoirs, making extraction extremely difficult. Located in the eastern Junggar Basin of Xinjiang, the Jimsar National-Level Onshore Shale Oil Demonstration Zone covers an area of 1,278 square kilometers and has resources exceeding 1 billion tons. To date, the demonstration zone's annual production has exceeded 1.7 million tons for the first time, setting a new record for the same period, with cumulative production exceeding 5.3 million tons.
Wang Haiming, Senior Engineer of the Jiqing Oilfield Operation Area of China National Petroleum Corporation's Xinjiang Oilfield Company: Since 2020, we have drilled 472 new wells and fractured 451 wells, driving the annual output of the demonstration area from 116,000 tons in 2019 to over 1.7 million tons this year, completing the production target 22 days ahead of schedule.
The shale oil in the Xinjiang Jimsar National Continental Shale Oil Demonstration Area is buried at a depth of 3,800 meters underground. It is a typical continental sedimentary deposit, characterized by thin thickness, low porosity and permeability, and high viscosity. Currently, the core indicators such as production and efficiency in the demonstration area have reached industry-leading levels.
