SunSirs: Supply Is Restricted, the Bromine Market Is Firming Up

January 25 2021 12:05:55     SunSirs (John)

Price trend

According to the data monitoring of SunSirs’ bulk list, the domestic bromine market has risen at a high level due to the decline in spot supply. As of January 22, the average price in Shandong was around 34,111 RMB/ton, an increase of 2.33% from the beginning of the month, and an overall increase of 12.04% over the same period last year.

Analysis review

Recently, the domestic bromine market as a whole has started at a low level. Most bromine companies have stopped, and the company stocks are mostly reserved for long-term customers. The spot supply in the market is insufficient. However, the main downstream markets have poor terminal demand for flame retardants, and the demand for bromine is flat. The supply and demand game in the industry is obvious. On the 22nd, mainstream bromine companies quoted about 34,000-35,000 RMB/ton.

On the upstream side, the sulfur inventory of refineries in various regions is low, the sulfur market is strong, and the holders have no intention of low-price selling. At present, downstream demand is stable, shipments are smooth, and on-demand procurement is the main focus. On the 22nd, the price of sulfur was about 1,040 RMB/ton. The prices of mainstream sulphuric acid manufacturers are temporarily stable, the manufacturers’ inventory is large, and the downstream demand is generally around 305 RMB/ton. The caustic soda market is weak and the downstream procurement demand is general, there is a certain resistance to the current caustic soda price. It is estimated that caustic soda may be weakly consolidated in a narrow range, currently around 482 RMB/ton. The main downstream flame retardant market terminals of bromine are in the off-season, and the poor demand for flame retardants has led to insufficient work in the industry. The demand for bromine is average, the overall intention to receive goods is insufficient, and the high price of bromine is obviously in conflict.

Market outlook

Bromine industry analysts of SunSirs believe that the domestic bromine market is strong at a high level, and the scarcity of spot supplies supports the high price of bromine. In the case that the supply of bromine cannot increase significantly in a short period of time, it is expected that bromine will continue to operate strongly in the near future.
