According to the commodity analysis system of SunSirs, the price of flake caustic soda had risen this week. At the beginning of the week, the average market price in Shandong was 3,433.33 RMB/ton, and on March 18th, the average market price was 3,483.33 RMB/ton, an increase of 1.46%, and a price increase of 0.48% compared to the same period last year.
On March 17th, the chlor alkali index was 1,000 points, unchanged from the previous day, a 53.01% decrease from the highest point in the cycle of 2,128 points (2021-10-24), and an increase of 40.45% from the lowest point of 712 points on January 5th, 2016. (Note: The cycle refers to 2011-12-01 present)
Upstream caustic soda
According to the commodity analysis system of SunSirs, the price of caustic soda had increased this week. At the beginning of the week, the average market price in Shandong was 785 RMB/ton, and on weekends, the average market price was 806 RMB/ton, with a price increase of 2.68% and a decrease of 2.18% compared to the same period last year. According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, domestic caustic soda prices had remained strong this week. The quotation for caustic soda in Shandong region had been consolidated, with 32% of the mainstream market quotation for ion exchange membrane caustic soda being around 730-840 RMB/ton, while the mainstream market price in Jiangsu region was around 830-880 RMB/ton.
Market outlook
SunSirs’ analysts believe that the price of flake caustic soda had slightly increased this week, and downstream demand had recovered. However, actual demand was limited. As of March 18th, enterprises were actively shipping, and overall, the price of flake caustic soda may remain stable in the short term, depending on downstream market demand.
